| One
of the most difficult things guitarists do with their picking hand, is to keep steady
alternate picking going (down, up, down, up) while jumping over or skipping strings. The
key to all right hand stuff is to keep the down and up motion constant and smooth, and to
use as little motion as possible. Dont waste time by picking too wide. As soon as
your pick gets across the string, throw it in to reverse and go the other way!! Just the
very tip of the pick should be "glancing" over the string so as not to cause any
unnecessary friction or catching on the string. Like they told you in Little League when
you were stepping up to the plate to knock one outta the park - choke up on your pick! This exercise will be good for your right hand if you practice it enough to
get it down smooth, and then gradually increase your speed. Watch yourself and make sure
you are using alternate picking throughout. That is what will make it work! Even when you
are skipping strings and may find yourself wanting to do two downstrokes in a row
dont! Keep it going down, up, down, up etc.... |
